*Around 900 moai, statues of human figures carved out single stone blocks, are on the island. The statues are about 4 meters tall, and weigh 14 tons each!
在這個島上有大約900個摩埃─ 由大石塊雕塑出來的人型石像。這些雕像約4公尺高，每個都重達14噸！

*The name “Easter Island” was given by the first European to visit the island, Dutch explorer Jacob Roggeveen. He landed on the island on Easter Sunday, 1722.
「復活節島」是第一個來到這個島上的歐洲人─ 荷蘭探險家雅各‧羅格文取的名字，他在1722年的復活節當天登陸這個島嶼。

*Easter Island is also known by its Polynesian name, Rapa Nui. Rapa Nui is also the name of the Polynesian people that settled on Easter Island. The first settlers likely arrived on the island between 800- 1200 AD.
復活節島也因其玻里尼西亞名字「拉帕努伊」而聞名。「拉帕努伊」也是定居復活節島的玻里尼西亞人的名字。首批移民可能是在西元800年至1200年之間抵達這個島嶼。

*The island lies 3,700 km west of Chile’s west coast. Today, around 6,000 people live on Easter Island.

*Most visitors fly to Easter Island from Chile’s capital Santiago or Tahiti. The flight time from either location is about 6 hours.

*The Christ the Redeemer statue of Jesus Christ is in Rio de Janerio, Brazil. It is 30 meters tall (Taipei 101 is 508 meters tall). The only Jesus statue that is taller is the Christ the King statue in Poland at 33 meters tall.

*The statue stands on top of Corcovado Hill, a 710 meters tall mountain that means “hunchback” in Portuguese to describe its rounded shape.

*In 2007, the statue was selected as one of the “New 7 Wonders of the World.” The others are: the Great Wall (China), Machu Picchu (Peru), Petra (Jordan), Chichen Itza Pyramid (Mexico), the Colosseum (Italy), and the Taj Mahal (India).

*You can take the train or car up Corcovado Hill to see the statue. Once you get to the top of the mountain, you can walk 220 steps or take an elevator to the statue.
